A Hanukkah Celebration of Light, Unity, and Gratitude for Our Soldiers

Hanukkah is a time of miracles, resilience, and the power of light over darkness. This year, Magen Achim had the honor of bringing the warmth of the festival to those who dedicate their lives to protecting Israel—our brave soldiers and lone soldiers.

In a heartfelt gathering filled with tradition, community, and joy, soldiers, volunteers, and supporters came together to celebrate Hanukkah as one big family. The event, held in a warm and welcoming setting, provided an opportunity for soldiers to step away from their demanding service, connect with one another, and feel the deep appreciation of those they protect.

A Celebration of Togetherness

The evening was filled with joy, laughter, and meaningful connections. Long tables were set with delicious Hanukkah treats, from steaming latkes to sufganiyot, creating a festive atmosphere that reminded everyone of home. Volunteers and soldiers shared stories, strengthening the bonds between those who serve and the communities that support them.

As the Hanukkah candles were lit, the glow of the menorah reflected the spirit of the evening—a powerful reminder that light always prevails, no matter the darkness. The soldiers stood together in unity, reciting the blessings and singing traditional songs that filled the room with warmth and pride.

For many lone soldiers—those serving in the IDF without immediate family in Israel—moments like these mean everything. Being surrounded by people who care, sharing a meal, and participating in cherished traditions bring them a sense of home.

One soldier shared:
“This is my first Hanukkah away from my family, and I was afraid it would feel empty. But here, I realized I have a new family—a community that stands with me and supports me. It means the world.”

Beyond the celebration, the event also served as a platform for support, offering soldiers guidance on navigating life in Israel, building connections, and finding mentorship through Magen Achim’s network.

Lighting the Way for Our Defenders

Hanukkah teaches us that even in the darkest times, a single light can make a difference. The soldiers who stand guard over Israel are that light—protecting the nation, ensuring the safety of its people, and upholding the values that define our homeland.

This celebration was our way of giving back—showing gratitude, offering comfort, and letting them know they are never alone.
